Materials management is a critical component in the management and operational efficiency of the supply chain. It is the drive for manufacturing process and also contributes to customer satisfaction and over all success of the organization.
Materials management is fraught with challenges which are traceable to poor selection of appropriate suppliers, difficulty in forecasting demand accurately, poor management of information, inadequate procurement procedures, inefficient use of production time and other resources, including poor quality control and standards, poor material planning and evaluation system. With these challenges in place low capacity utilization, inability to fulfill customer’s order, low market share and loss of financial investments would results.

To equip people with the required competencies with which to function efficiently in the management of materials in the supply chain
At the end of this practical learning, participants will have the key knowledge and skill in the following areas:
- Material management functions.
- Selection and certification of suppliers
- Materials planning, quality control and standards
- Procurement and transportation of materials
- Receipt, inspection, storage, issuance and usage of materials.
- Product planning: inventory, manufacturing and sales
- Distribution requirement planning
- Selection of bidders, bidding process and acquisition process

This practical training will be delivered using practicum/practicals, simulations, visual display with introductory presentation by experts.

This course is designed for persons desirous to become expert in material management; persons already practicing but craves to understand new methods of managing materials and those who wish to build a career in material management in the future.
